What is Fascial Stretch Therapy?

Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST) is a technique of assisted stretching that concentrates on the muscles, joints, and connective tissue. While you are gently assisted into specific stretches to help you relax and move your body into your joints and body, the therapist will assist you to stabilize your body as needed.

Fascia is a network of connective tissue that surrounds muscles, bones, and joints. Restricted fascia and joint capsules can cause osteoarthritis, discomfort while moving, muscular tightness, strains, tendon injuries, headaches, scar tissue formation

The services of an RMT are not covered under the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP); however, many extended health benefit plans will cover all or part of the services provided by an RMT. A referral or prescription is not required to visit an RMT, although some insurance companies may require this. Massage therapy treatments may also be reimbursed by automobile insurance companies, if the client was in a motor vehicle accident, or in the case of workplace injuries, by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB).

Benefits of Fascial Stretch Therapy

The principle difference between this therapy and other flexibility programs is that each stretch begins with a light traction of the joint being treated. This allows for a deeper stretch by expanding joint space. For individuals wanting to enhance flexibility and mobility, recover from training, or avoid injury, this is an excellent option.

Fascial Stretch Therapy can be an important part of your health maintenance plan by:

  • Improved posture and muscular functioning
  • Improved performance in sports that are specific to your interests
  • Improve muscular strength and endurance
  • Reduce muscular tension and the risk of harm.
  • Increased balance and body symmetry
  • Reduce muscular soreness and tiredness.
  • Helps to treat the symptoms of osteoarthritis and facet joint dysfunctions
